About Us
An independent voice for smarter energy in the Carolinas.
We started Krystel Power because too many homeowners and small businesses were being sold equipment they didn't need. Our job is simple: bring honest engineering advice to every property we visit.

Meet the founder
David R Ledford
Founder & Principal Energy Consultant
Born and raised in Mitchell County, David spent 18 years working in HVAC and building science before founding Krystel Power in 2017. He holds BPI Building Analyst certification and is a NABCEP Associate in PV system design.
His vision was straightforward — a small, local consultancy that puts the homeowner first, files the rebate paperwork honestly, and never accepts kickbacks from installers. That principle still guides every project we take on.
Outside of work, David volunteers with the Toe River Valley community foundation and is a regular speaker at the Western NC Sustainability Forum.
Our values
What we stand for
Independence
We don't sell equipment. Our recommendations are based on what's best for your building.
Transparency
Flat consulting fees, written reports and itemized estimates — no surprises.
Craftsmanship
Every audit follows BPI standards. Every solar design follows NEC and IEEE practice.
Stewardship
We pick projects that meaningfully reduce emissions, not just sell hardware.
Community
We're locals. Most of our work happens within an hour of Spruce Pine.
Accountability
We follow up post-installation and verify the energy savings we promised.
Our story
From a single truck to a regional consultancy
Krystel Power was founded out of a converted barn workshop in Spruce Pine in 2017 with one diagnostic kit and a small client list. Word spread quickly — first through neighbors, then through local builders, and eventually through the Western NC Realtors Association.
Today we operate across 14 counties in the Blue Ridge and Piedmont regions, with a tightly vetted network of installers and electricians we've worked with for years. We deliberately stay small so the founder is on every project.
Our company is named after David's daughter, Krystel — a reminder that the work we do today shapes the energy landscape the next generation will inherit.
